Quilting Delights #2 August 22-23, 2014

Christine Gist and I were invited back to Portland for Quilting Delights second round of Sewapolooza. We had a great time and Thea and staff are so fun to work with. It was my first Serger event and things went off with our a hitch. Christine taught me a new trick for the cover stitch machine: At the end of the seam (never sew off) lift the foot, slide your scissors or tweezers under the foot on top of the fabric.  Pull the threads out and snip them close. Pull the rest of the garment out and snip the looper threads. It pulls the top thread to the back and locks it so it won't come unsewed. Great trick!

I have a new plan for cutting the T shirts. Definitely pre cut them all before the guests arrive. I made an acrylic template. Center it over the logo. Cut straight across the bottom side seam to side seam. Save lower piece. Cut up both sides and across the top. cut the left sleeve off. Fold the bottom, logo piece and sleeve up with the logo side up. Then the cutting stations don't get all backed up. They only have to cut their strips while waiting for a serger.

QUILT, KNIT, STITCH Portland OR

The first QKS Portland was held this summer and several of us were invited to help with the BERNINA USA booth. It was a collaboration of A Common Thread, Modern Domestic, and Quilting Delights. It was my first chance to try out the new BERNINA Long arm and it was amazing! Shelly Fitz, Betty Stoltz, and I were representing the BERNINA Event Team. The sales were great and I got a little experience on the E16 as well. Fabulous machine! The author of this book was there and there was a style show with the dresses made from the book. All the same pattern AMAZING!
